Creating a new anchor for a successful post warliberal arts residence college started with high expectations. Chief amongthese integrating into the larger university campus andaddressing the refined architecture of the much older sister colleges. Being aconscientious owner they also sought LEED status with an eye toward savingenergy over the expected life of the building.

Sources include LED, fluorescent and halogen. Building lighting control needs were handled locally in conjunction with California's restrictive Title 24 energy code. In conference rooms, lecture halls and seminar labs dimming facilitated layers of light for the various needs during the course of a day. Faculty and staff offices used A/B switching of overhead fixtures in addition to local task lamps and daylight. Automatedshades managed daylight control throughout but stopped short of full daylight automation due to budgetary concerns.

This jewel is known affectionately as the living room. Linear LED slots highlight the perimeter glass structure which uses no steel supporting the roof. LED downlights provide ample illumination for study and socializing at all hours of the day.

Piezoelectric keypads by the door use no wires whatsoever.

Area lighting surrounding the glass room is kept to an absolute minimum allowing the icon to shine in the darkness

LED grade markers notate pathways along rail and unify the extent of project.

Lower level courtyards receive a soft glow of light from overhead trellis fluorescent fixtures (in foreground).

In this connector area of the lower courtyard light levels are high. Drop down fluorescent trims keep light bright and high up onto the walls. Linear LED highlights the curved warm stucco.
