The Summit is a two-parcel development in Suzhou, China, that connects to the existing metro station and borders both sides of Suhua Road, the city’s ceremonial boulevard and center for commercial development. The mixed-use development features two towers—one 16 stories and the other 39 stories—and includes office, retail and luxury residences that offer unobstructed eastern views to Jinji Lake. The 1.23million sq. ft. mixed-use urban development includes 635,000 sq. ft. for Class A international office buildings, 358,000 sq. ft. allocated to retail and237,000 sq. ft. of luxury residences.

As a commercial mix-use, lighting emphasizes a series of interlocking volumes, and visually unifies the two parcels. White, grays and black color palette inspired by the architectural vernacular famous in Suzhou, is also the language in the light.

The bridge connecting the two parcels is a key transport hub, the process of pedestrian walking behavior is interactive. The movement is captures and displayed as a silhouette on the glass curtain walls. It forms a visual communication with people on the bridge.

Small, narrow-beam spotlights highlights the crown of the tower. It is well concealed in the top of curtain wall. A main design feature was for the commercial podium to be a "glowing box". After comparison for several lighting solutions, a multi-layered façade lighting back light system was applied. The outer layer is fritted glass with horizontal parallel lines, keeping the architectural texture glass reflection and transparency in the daytime. The middle layer is made of architectural resin sheet for diffusing light. Between the sheets and inner layer LED dots on the wall, there is a 600mm width space for lighting maintenance. LED dots spacing of 300mm allows the podium façade to maintain a uniform lighting effect while meeting the LEED and China national green building energy consumption limit requirements for facades. Under low pixel display conditions, a series of requirements for the dynamic pedestrian silhouettes are designed.

The triangle light box in the ceiling highlights the mall lobby, creating layers of light to attract consumers into the space.

The mall entry lighting provides a multi-layers lighting, noticeable from the street in daytime.

The ambient luminescence of mall interior is achieved using light guide sheet(3500K) and down light (3000K) which allow the intricate layers of masonry lobby space to be revealed.
