INTRO
Don’t let poor lighting cast a shadow over your ratings! Research conducted by Osram in 2014 found that guests regularly criticized lighting quality when giving hotel feedback. Hotels in London for example were subjected to nearly 10,000 reviews specifically on lighting, with many travelers complaining about dim, bad and sparse lighting in their rooms.
A good design can be ruined by poor lighting. To understand how lighting works together with the space is incredibly crucial to present the whole picture to your visitors and clients. Let’s share some tips over the years of observation and experience when designing lighting and interior spaces.
别让糟糕的照明设计破坏酒店的整体体验。2014年，OSRAM进行的一项研究发现，在收集旅客酒店体验的意见反馈时，照明设计的质量问题备受诟病。比如在伦敦的一家酒店，就收到了近10,000评论，抱怨房间灯光明暗不均等问题。

1/8 Consult a lighting designer and planner / 询问专业灯光顾问的意见
When hotel lighting is done well you don’t necessarily notice it, but when it isn’t, you most certainly do! Lighting layout and design is often left to electrical engineers, meaning style isn’t always at the forefront of plans. Having a professional lighting planner as a consultant can define the appearance of lighting – especially in public areas. This is essential to avoid negative first impressions and minimize risks.
当酒店照明设计做的恰好时你未必会留意到它，但是当它做的很糟糕时，你一眼便能看出来。现在常能看到一些项目的照明布局和设计环节，往往留给电气工程师来布置，最终设计出来的风格总事与愿违。但若有专业的照明设计师作为顾问，则可以根据酒店整体的设计，定义照明设计风格。这是为客户打造美好第一印象,从而达到风险最小化的关键。
2/8 Adapt the lighting design to the layout of the space/适应不同的空间布局
Hotel foyers are changing in terms of design, and so is the foyer lighting technique. The traditional format of a separated foyer, restaurant, bar and check-in area is increasingly being replaced by free-flowing spaces where different functions take place in one open space. Lighting, as a result, needs to be adjustable for it to fit the changing primary use of the space throughout the day. In the morning for example, cool lighting might be used during breakfast, whilst in the evening warmer lighting can create a cozy atmosphere. Other areas such as the bar might need to be zoned out using lighting contrasts when not in use.
酒店大厅设计风格正在悄然改变，而相对应的照明设计也应跟随变化。在传统设计中，酒店大厅、餐厅、休闲吧和前台一般相互隔离，而现在越来越多被放在统一的开放空间里。因此，照明也需要根据这样的改变而做出调整，才能适应一天中不断变化的使用空间。比如在早晨就餐时，需要清爽而明亮的灯光，而在晚上，则需要营造出暖和且舒适的灯光氛围。其它区域（如酒吧）则需要根据不同的功能设计相对应的气氛。
3/8 Staying true to the concept /忠于原始设计概念
Lamps can create a great focal point for guests; however, it is important that they fit the overall design concept of a hotel. This applies to hotel rooms and public areas. Being a design feature in itself, lamps or any other lighting fixtures should also be used to highlight architectural or decorative aspects that give a hotel its individual flair or define its concept.
灯具可以吸引顾客的目光。然而，更重要的是它们要符合酒店的整体设计理念。这同样适用于酒店客房和公共区域。作为整体设计中的一环，灯具或任何其它照明设备，应该借助本身的功能特色来提升建筑或装饰的整体效果。
4/8 Ensure all areas have lighting considerations/尽量考虑各种空间的灯光
There should be light in the tunnel, not just at the end of it! For example, corridors are often overlooked when it comes to lighting design. As they form an important part of the journey from the foyer to the rooms, they should link the different areas of the hotel in a way that reflects the atmosphere experienced elsewhere. Whilst sufficient lighting is required to aid orientation, there shouldn’t be great differences in the temperature of lighting as you pass through different spaces.

One room, a multitude of purposes. Hotel room lighting needs to be bright enough to work, but also cozy enough to relax. It is therefore important that guests have sufficient fittings. The intimate space such as the bathroom and the public living room should be open, yet separated at the same time. A master switch and area switch is essential to make this happen.
一个房间，多种用途。酒店房间的照明不仅要足够明亮以便工作，也需兼顾温暖舒适感。因此，对灯光的控制方面应该给客户充分的选择权。比如私密的浴室和公共的客厅既要互通，又要分离，如果通过灯光的控制，就可以在一个空间中巧妙的将其隔离开来。
6/8 Don’t be too complicated / 别太复杂化
Ever spent ages trying to find the bathroom light switch in a hotel room? Lighting systems that are not intuitive for guests to use should be avoided. When it comes to rooms, systems that use tablets and phones are being introduced to help guests manage everything from room service to lighting. Guests often don’t even need to download an app: they can simply scan a QR code and access all lighting controls from their devices. Again, usability is key.

7/8 Bring back natural light/如有机会，尽量引进自然光
In the past, rooms without windows (and therefore without natural light) were often regarded as highly useful for work events – reducing potential glare from the sun and maximizing wall space for projections for example. Nowadays however, no daylight equals no booking, meaning where possible, natural light should always be incorporated into plans.
没有日光的酒店已经是过去式。以前，没有窗户（因此没有自然光）的房间通常便于工作，比如减少了太阳的潜在眩光，并最大化了墙面空间。然而，现在，没有日光等于没有卖点，也没有吸引力，所以在可能的情况下，应该尽量将自然光的引进纳入设计概念中。
8/8 Think Efficiency, smart lighting system is a great solution / 智能控制提高灯光效能
Smart lighting can saves energy and provides a level of comfort and convenience. From concept of smart lighting also involves utilizing natural light from the sun to reduce the use of man-made lighting, and the simple concept of people turning off lighting when they leave a room. Smart lighting that utilizes occupancy sensors can work in unison with other lighting connected to the same network to adjust lighting per various conditions.
智能照明可以节省能源并提供一定程度的舒适和便利。从智能照明的概念还涉及利用太阳的自然光来减少人造照明的使用，以及人们离开房间时智能关闭。使用智能照明可以同时与其它系统联动，以便在各种条件下调整照明亮度与环境光。
The most basic benefit for using smart lighting system is the ability and flexibility to adjust lighting intensitites based on dates, times, and the sun path. For example, different holiday seasons can interchange different lighting moods and effects by reaction the music and movements. This method is a great potential solution to hotel interior spaces because it can provide more possibility in terms of fast changibility for various occasionts a hotel serves. It also speeds up efficiency, less energy consumption, and even lower maintainence cost.
采用智能照明后，可以根据不同日期、不同时间以及不同场景进行光照度的设置，也可每天根据日出日落时间实现自动开关照明灯光。可以根据氛围或节假日的需求，甚至根据音乐变换灯光的颜色，营造不同的氛围，给酒店灯光设计带来更多可能性，解决了场景快速切换和快速响应的难题，不仅能提高灯光利用效能，降低能耗，还将大大减少酒店的运行维护费用。
